A conflict of interest occurs when a person is in a position to obtain a personal benefit from actions or decisions made in their official capacity. For most elected officials, this means they may not use their official position for personal gain. Trump claims he cannot have a conflict of interest because he is the president. This is reminiscent of a comment Nixon made when he said, "If the President does it that means it's not illegal."
